Optics11 acquired Fugro’s fibre optic FAZ technology to expand its sensing platforms

AMSTERDAM Optics11, a company offering high-end fiber sensing solutions, has acquired the fibre-optic technology – known as FAZ Technology – from Fugro. FAZ Technology specialises in the research and development of fibre-optic sensing solutions, whose potential is much broader than Fugro’s core markets; hence Fugro’s decision to divest. FAZ Technology’s fibre-optic sensing solutions will complement […]

Successful sea trial of Optics11 fiber optic hydrophone array

Major milestone ✔ This month we had a successful sea trial of our 4 node hydrophone array. After years of development and several iterations of the individual sensors and readout we proved our array is capable of detecting underwater sound sources up to hundreds of meters away in sea conditions. With the help of TNO we […]

Optics11 releases OptimAE, world’s first fiber optic Acoustic Emission system

Meet OptimAE Optics11 is proud to present the world ‘s first fiber-optic Acoustic Emission sensing system: OptimAE. OptimAE brings for the first time the benefits of fiber-optic sensing into the Acoustic Emission world. Thanks to the unique passive design of the 6300-series AE sensors, OptimAE enables AE measurements in the most challenging conditions, spacing from […]

Experiment to quantitatively compare the performance of five state of the art sensors

Elastic guided waves are carriers of information of the (change in) condition of plate-like structures like windturbine blades, airplane wings and road surfaces on bridges. To measure these guided waves we do not have to use piezos. Other sensors offer interesting benefits like contactless sensing, embedding, or measuring without electricity. However, quantitively comparing them is […]

Fiber optic seismic sensors detected the Norcia earthquake

Our fiber technology was used in a study on optical fiber acceleration sensors by the University of Sannio in Italy. The seismic sensors were able to accurately measure the Norcia earthquake in 2016. Congratulation on the publication Andrea and Marco! The full publication can be found here or if you are interested in the accelerometers please click here.

Experiment with Optics11 nanosensors

Inholland Composites performed an experiment together with our colleague Mark Jacobs. During an informal meeting, initiated by Kampinga, Inholland’s Innovation Director, the suggestion was made to set up an experiment to investigate the production readiness for integrating the fibre sensors in composite laminates using vacuum infusion as a production method. There seem to be many opportunities for […]

Value creation capital invests in optical fiber nanosensing company Optics11

Optics11 is a fast-growing high-tech company that makes measurement systems based on optical fiber technology, measuring nanoscale effects in difficult environments. Originating from the VU University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, prof. Davide Iannuzzi founded the company in 2011 together with Hans Brouwer. Building on so-called fiber-top technology, they laid the foundation for a range of […]
