OptiFender – Partial Discharge Monitoring for Transformers

OptiFender – Partial Discharge Monitoring for Transformers

OptiFender is an online partial discharge (PD) monitoring system for transformers that utilizes a revolutionary fiber optic sensing technology. The system helps identify and localize PD sources, saving time and money in fixing the issue. OptiFender allows data streaming to local servers or cloud solutions and can be used in remote locations, harsh environments, and ATEX zones due to its EMI immunity and passive sensors. The acquisition unit is placed in a control room at the substation, while multiple acoustic sensors are installed on the transformer tank walls. Defect location is calculated by triangulating the acoustic signals acquired by sensors simultaneously.

OptimAE is the world’s only all fiber-optic Acoustic Emission (AE) sensing system, capable of measuring in extreme environments such as high-voltage areas, ATEX zones, and areas with high EMI or liquids. This system overcomes the limitations of classic electrical transducers, extending the benefits of Acoustic Emission to new industries. The system features up to 32 optical channels, a sampling speed of 1 MS/s, and true simultaneous signal acquisition. It is suitable for applications like Structural Health Monitoring, Condition Monitoring, and Measurements in ATEX, extreme low/high temperatures, and radiation (EMI/nuclear) environments.
